A summer of gardening

In June of this past year, I took over the front garden in my building. The circumstances surrounding my taking on this project were bitter. My back neighbor, who had previously taken care of the gardening sadly died at his own hands earlier this summer. He was a troubled man who always took solace in gardening, so I felt that someone had to keep it up, and well, I like gardening, so I offered.

I got a late start this year because I didn't get the garden until June, and while my neighbor enjoyed gardening, he wasn't that good at it so I had to start by pulling up a lot of the weeds he had painstakingly cultivated. Also, I didn't have much money to really take it on (I didn't realize how expensive it could be), so my garden was a progress this summer. My windfall happened today when I was able to transplant a whole bunch of Hostas to the front from the back because our fence is being replaced.

I'm looking forward to all my hard work this year really paying off next summer, when all of my perennials come back after having had a year to settle in (hopefully this winter won't be too harsh).

How sad, Jes. I'm glad to see that you continued his tradition, though. Hope you are enjoying keeping up the garden. It looks great! =)
