A summer of gardening

In June of this past year, I took over the front garden in my building. The circumstances surrounding my taking on this project were bitter. My back neighbor, who had previously taken care of the gardening sadly died at his own hands earlier this summer. He was a troubled man who always took solace in gardening, so I felt that someone had to keep it up, and well, I like gardening, so I offered.

I got a late start this year because I didn't get the garden until June, and while my neighbor enjoyed gardening, he wasn't that good at it so I had to start by pulling up a lot of the weeds he had painstakingly cultivated. Also, I didn't have much money to really take it on (I didn't realize how expensive it could be), so my garden was a progress this summer. My windfall happened today when I was able to transplant a whole bunch of Hostas to the front from the back because our fence is being replaced.

I'm looking forward to all my hard work this year really paying off next summer, when all of my perennials come back after having had a year to settle in (hopefully this winter won't be too harsh).

Wall Decals!

Yesterday I found some unused wall decals at a garage sale for a few buck and took them home. I experimented with three in my kitchen and plan to put the rest up this week.

It's officially over $4 a gallon here

I'm so glad I got rid of the car (the gas station is 1/2 a block from my apartment).

Donna's Aquatic Pet Shop AND Lee's Seafood

What I love about this photo from my old neighborhood is that the pet fish store and the seafood shop have the SAME PHONE NUMBER.

...and apparently, judging from the comments, I wasn't the only one who noticed this.

Conan Fights Stephen Colbert and John Stewart: The Brawl

Yes, I know this is old news, but I still think it is funny, and need a place to store it so I can watch it whenever I'd like.
